A new Rayman game was going to happen after the development of games like BGaE2 and Wild so it was going to take awhile. He basically had the control over the IP. I think the biggest reason why we never got Rayman games wasn't because the games don't sell, I've established in a post somewhere here that Legends must have sold close to 5 million units due to the series total sales going up by that much since its release, but because Michel Ancel was THE Rayman guy for the longest time. Sparks of Hope will also introduce new characters, such as Bowser, Rabbid Rosalina, and an original character created specifically for the game, Edge.I think with Rayman it's less of a test to see if there is any interest, there obviously is considering the reception to the DLC announcement was extremely positive, and more them just trying to bring him back in the spotlight again after a decade long wait. Nintendo has already confirmed the appearance of a number of characters in the series’ newest title, including returning favorites Peach and both Mario brothers, as well as their Rabbid counterparts. Rayman will join Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope as a playable character in the third DLC when it releases next year, though this won't be the first time that Rayman and the Rabbids have crossed paths they previously shared screen time in Ubisoft's 2006 Nintendo Wii party game, Rayman Raving Rabbids. That special hero? Non other than the Rabbids' familiar foe, Rayman. The biggest surprise of the segment was when Davide Soliani, Creative Director at Ubisoft Milan, announced that Mario+Rabbids Sparks of Hope will be getting three DLC expansions over the course of a year, and that a very special new hero would be joining the roster as a playable character.
